Steal me for easy reference!

Facebook personal profile image sizes

Okay, it’s time to pay attention to the pixels. Your profile picture is your most important image, and it must look great.

Facebook profile picture size

Your Facebook profile is one of the first images people see when encountering your profile online.

We all have people on our friends list who haven’t sized their profile pictures correctly. This blunder gives the impression of burgeoning internal chaos and being digitally challenged, which we simply can’t have.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 761x761 pixels
  • Minimum: 180x180 pixels
  • Maximum: 2048x2048 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 1:1

Tips & Guidelines

  • Your image will be cropped to a circle, so you should ensure the critical elements show within the circle so nothing is cut off. Say no to bad crops.
  • A 40x40 pixel profile thumbnail appears next to your posts and comments.
  • If you click a profile picture, it can be shown up to 850x850 pixels, depending on the device and the original image.

Facebook profile cover size

Your Facebook profile cover is also one of the first images people see when looking at your account. Ensure your image resolution is high enough to look snazzy across all devices. Also, ensure all the essential bits are within the safe zones so they don’t get cut off on mobile.

What is the safe zone? The area that will not be cut off when your design is resized for different types of devices like mobile phones, tablets, and desktops. Any important visuals or text should appear within this central zone to ensure it can be seen by everyone.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 851×315 pixels
  • Maximum: 2037×754 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 2.7:1

Tips & Guidelines

  • Remember that your profile photo will partially cover the left side of your cover photo.
  • Keep your text and key visuals within the safe zone so nothing gets shopped off on mobile devices.
  • If your image contains text, use a PNG file to improve its quality and avoid pixelation.
  • Reduce the file size to 100kb.

Facebook cover photo sizes

Your cover photo is an essential visual for your events, groups, and Business Page.

Facebook event cover photo size

A Facebook event cover uses dimensions different from those of your personal and business page covers.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 1200x628 pixels
  • Maximum: 1920x1005 pixels (ideal for retina displays)
  • Minimum: 400x150 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9

Tips & Guidelines

  • You can’t edit your event cover photo after you’ve added it on Facebook. You can only replace it.
  • Keep within the mobile safe zones
  • Reduce your file to around 100kb

Facebook group cover photo size

Your cover photo should represent the purpose and identity of the Facebook group. It’s a welcome message to the group and new members and a great way to create a memorable first impression.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 1640x956 pixels
  • Minimum: 820x461 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 1:91:1

Tips & Guidelines

  • Advertise upcoming events or share announcements in your cover image.
  • Use photos that reflect the group's theme or include pictures of products or services if the group is related to your brand.
  • Reduce your file size and stay in the safe zones for mobile devices.

Facebook Business Page cover photo size

Your Facebook Business Page cover isn’t as straightforward a design to create as you’d think. You must always remember to put the important parts of your image within the mobile safe zone.

The sides are cut off when viewing your Facebook Page from a mobile device, so designing within the central zone that's viewed across all devices ensures your design looks professional, whether people are using a tablet or phone to view your Business Page.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 851x312 pixels (double this for maximum image quality for retina displays and use 1902x624 pixels)
  • Minimum: 400x150 pixels
  • Maximum: 1958x795 pixels
  • Mobile safe zone: 640x312 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9

Tips & Guidelines

  • Include your logo or icon, colors, or tagline so your cover aligns with your brand identity.
  • Show what you do by using photos or images of your products or services in action.
  • Showcase your wins with reviews from happy customers.
  • Promotions or special offers: Use the extra advertising space to share your latest specials, coupon codes, website links, etc.
  • Use your cover for special announcements like holiday hours or new store locations.
  • Remember that your profile photo will partially cover the left side of your cover photo on other devices and will be cropped to suit different screens.
  • Some people prefer to design covers using the mobile safe zone dimensions to avoid parts of it getting chopped off on mobile devices. If you do this, check your image quality on large devices.
  • Use a PNG file to improve the quality of your image and avoid pixelation, especially with text in your pictures.
  • Reduce the file size to 100kb to avoid Facebook compressing it for you, where you risk losing image quality.
  • Don’t drag to reposition the image. It causes Facebook to create a new version, reducing the quality of the pictures.

Facebook photo post sizes (Newsfeed)

You can share various post types on your news feed in three shapes: landscape, portrait, and square.

Facebook multiple images

When sharing multiple images, Facebook displays them differently according to the number of posts you upload. This also differs if your posts are square, landscape, or portrait. Here is all you need to know about how multiple images show when you post them on Facebook. They no longer default to the carousel view.

Square

One square: 492x492 pixels

Two squares: 245x246 pixels

Three squares: The top image shows at 492x245 pixels, and the bottom two images as 245x245 pixels.

Four squares: All four photos display at 245x245 pixels.

Five squares: The top two appear at 245x245 pixels, the left and right bottom images show as 163x163 pixels, and the bottom middle one displays at 162x163 pixels.

Six squares and up: Displays the same as five squares but with an overlay over the bottom right image with the number of photos you can’t see.

Landscape

One landscape: 492x276 pixels

Two landscapes: 492x245 pixels

Three landscapes: The top image shows at 492x327 pixels, and the bottom two images are 245x163 pixels.

Four landscapes: The top image is 492x327 pixels, the bottom left and right images are 163x163 pixels, and the middle bottom one is 162x163 pixels.

Five landscapes: The top left and bottom left images display at 245x245 pixels, the top right and bottom right images at 163x163 pixels, and the middle right image at 145x162 pixels.

Six landscapes and up: Displays the same as five landscapes but with an overlay over the bottom right image with the number of photos you can’t see.

Portrait

One portrait: 492x738 pixels

Two portraits: 245x492 pixels

Three portraits: The left image is 327x492 pixels, and the right top and bottom images are 163x245 pixels.

Four portraits: The left image is 327x492 pixels, the right top and bottom pictures are 163x163 pixels, and the right middle one is 163x162 pixels.

Five portraits: The top two images are 245x245 pixels, the bottom left and right images are 163x163 pixels, and the middle bottom image is 162x163 pixels.

Six portraits and up: Displays the same as five portraits but with an overlay over the bottom right image with the number of photos you can’t see.

Note: If you upload a mix of image orientations, which I sincerely hope you don’t do, Facebook will use the first image to set the layout.

Facebook shared link post size

Sharing links on Facebook is a great way to drive traffic to your site to promote articles, blog posts, products, events, or updates.

This Facebook post size is slightly different because you upload the image to your website or blog at the best size for sharing. The new Pages experience lets you opt to show a preview when sharing a link. You can include up to 10 images and unique destination URLs. It gives a selection of images from the URL, and you can edit the thumbnail image or upload a new one.

Shared links on Facebook include a title, description, and an image thumbnail by default. The format of the images you can use is flexible. You can opt for wider rectangular photos that span the entire feed width with the title and description below or smaller square pictures with the details alongside them.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 1200x630 pixels for retina displays
  • Minimum for larger rectangular images: 600x315 pixels (this image will appear a lot smaller in the feed and not take up the entire width)
  • Minimum for small square images: 200x200 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 1:91:1 for rectangular or 1:1 for square images
  • Maximum file size: 8MB

Tips & Guidelines

  • Use an enticing image that makes people click the link to learn more. Your thumbnail attracts attention to your post.
  • Ensure your meta title and description use clear language that gets to the point to describe the content of the link.
  • Square image thumbnails display at 154x154 pixels in the feed.
  • Rectangular image thumbnails appear at 470x246 pixels in the feed.

Facebook carousel image post size

Carousel image posts can only be created in the Meta Ads Manager and your Business Page as an ad and on Instagram. These ads show as carousels across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network.

Facebook treats images with two or more images differently nowadays, which we will discuss later in this article. When you create a carousel in the Ads Manager, you can add a headline and unique URL to each carousel card.

The most important thing about a Facebook carousel post is all your images should have the same dimensions.

Measurements

  • Recommended: 1080x1080 pixels
  • Maximum: 2048x2048 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 1:1
  • Number of images or videos: 10
  • Maximum file size: 30MB for images and 4 MB for videos

Tips & Guidelines

  • Focus on your first image. It’s the most important image because it makes people swipe through your carousel. Make it appealing and stand out so people want to keep looking.
  • Carousel posts make great Facebook ads. They come with optimizations available in the Meta Ads Manager, and you can assign unique URLs to each card in the carousel. This makes it easy to showcase products and services or send people to specific pages on your website.
  • During posting, you can reorder your carousel slides to go in a specific order.
  • After posting a carousel, you won’t be able to add a new image, but you can delete cards and reorder them.
  • If you use your carousel post as an ad, you cannot edit the artwork unless you stop it from running.

Facebook video post sizes (Newsfeed)

As with Facebook image posts, your video posts must be sized correctly for Facebook.

Facebook single video post size

Accepted aspect ratios

  • Full landscape: 16:9
  • Square: 1:1
  • Vertical: 4:5
  • Full portrait/vertical: 9:16

Measurements

  • Recommended: Landscape 1280x720 pixels, portrait 720x1280 pixels
  • Video format: Use MP4 or MOV
  • Recommended frame rate: 30fps (frames per second)
  • File size: Under 8GB
  • Video length: 120 minutes or less

Tips & Guidelines

  • Meta recommends using sound and adding captions to your Facebook video posts.
  • Cater to short attention spans by keeping your videos between 15 and 60 seconds long and getting to the point early in your video.
  • Add subtitles to make your video accessible to viewers who watch without sound.
  • Remember that most users view videos from their mobile devices. You should optimize your video for this by keeping the text size readable, using the correct aspect ratio, and having clear content that’s easy to see.

Facebook carousel video post size

As with carousel image posts, Facebook carousel video posts can be created in the Ads Manager and your Facebook Business Page. Carousel video ads are displayed across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network.

The specs for Facebook carousel video ads are similar to those for image posts. Consistency in the sizing of your cards is vital.

Measurements

Recommended: 1080x1080 pixels

Minimum number of videos or images: 2

Maximum number of videos or images: 10

Maximum length: up to 240 minutes, although Meta recommends 15 seconds

Aspect ratio: 1:1

Recommended file types: GIF, MP4, and MOV

Maximum file size: 4GB per video

Tips & Guidelines

  • Videos autoplay as a person swipes through your carousel cards. Videos under 30 seconds will loop for about 90 seconds, but videos over 30 seconds won’t repeat.
  • The sound in carousel videos is off by default. It will play if the user taps on the video or unmutes it.
  • For ads using Facebook carousel videos, the horizontal 16:9 aspect ratio is recommended for in-stream ads, and the vertical 9:16 aspect ratio for Audience Network placements.

Facebook Stories sizes

Everyone loves a story! Stories are fun, spontaneous, and designed for in-the-moment content. Lasting only 24 hours, they have an exclusivity element that keeps people hooked.

Facebook Stories work the same way as Instagram Stories, appearing at the top of the newsfeed in a swipeable slideshow format. Stories let you share visual updates using images, videos, text, and stickers to communicate with your followers.

Stories are a great way to reach more people and become more discoverable, as they are prominently placed in the newsfeed. Plus, you can get super creative when designing them.

Use the details below to design your image and video Stories and ensure they look perfect on your Page. Facebook uses the same dimensions as Instagram image sizes for Stories - they take up the whole screen of a phone.

  • File size: 30MB

  • Aspect ratio: 9:16 and 4:5 to 1:91:1
